It’s been an incredible summer. But, unfortunately the fall weather is coming. A chill is creeping into the air in the evening and soon we will be hitting frost again. That being said, summer has been awesome. The fishing was great this year - smallmouth, musky, walleye, and pike really cooperated with me and my clients to make for some epic days on the water.
Recently I had the cool opportunity to take a few fly fishermen out on the water in search of their FIRST musky on the fly. So far this summer I’ve helped three flyfishermen connect with their first muskies. It’s always fun and such a pleasure to get people into such a rare fish.
Earlier this summer I took Josh out for two days - he really wanted musky. We searched and searched hucking huge oversized streamers until it finally happened. His first, second, and third musky came directly in front of him as he figure-8’ed the fish. The coolest part was that one of the flies he caught the musky on was custom tied for him by Dark Waters Fly Shop and it was made out of Moose hair.
Another great day on the water came with Andrew. He drove up from lower Michigan and was interested in a combo of musky and some additional species. We went ahead and achieved a Freshwater Grand Slam for him (3 game species in one day). All of the fish were his FIRST on the fly. So cool - so glad it all worked out.
Yesterday I had my most recent trip with a fly fisherman. I took Ron out in search of musky and smallmouth. He is a very experienced fly fisherman that has never gotten into the warm water game. Within an hour of fishing he had boated his first musky on the fly.
I am looking forward to this fall and hopefully continuing the search of nice fish. The musky don’t bite as much, but when they do, you can find some of the big ol’ dawgs. Let me know if you are interested in a trip. I am already planning and preparing for the 2020 season.
As always.
Catch.
Release.
Wander.
C'est la vie.
Pura vida.
Carpe diem.
