Freezing temps couldn’t keep me away from this goal - I’ve been fishing for a month straight and went fishless the ENTIRE time. I hooked into some musky and lost them and saw a few others but nothing I did caught a fish. I had to change that - and I DID!
This morning in the cold I got up and drove to Iron River and hooked up with Seth from Dark Waters Fly Shop. The two of us headed north and visited a very picturesque river that flows into Lake Superior.
Reaching the spot we had a small amount of snow, ice, frost, and frozen rain from the night before. Everything was still and glittered when the morning sun finally touched down.
Fishing was difficult for me but it ended up working out. I caught a fish… a small brook trout, but a FISH! My buddy Seth ended up catching 3 trout species - a brown, a rainbow, and a brook trout. He also finished it off with a coho salmon. It was so cool seeing all of the different species of trout caught in the same location on the same flies (we were fly fishing).
Overall the fishing this fall has kicked my butt. However, with that being said, today I struck back! And did get some quality fishing in. Even one small brookie is enough to make my day when the fishing blues are getting me down.
Soon I will hopefully get over to a larger tributary of Lake Michigan and maybe find a few more fish to take pictures of and then quickly release.

As always.
Catch.
Release.
Wander.
C'est la vie.
Pura vida.
Carpe diem.
