A new year is upon us - fishing into 2019 and a look back at 2018

2018 was a very good year - check out these stats to see for yourself with this link below

I fished over a 100 different locations this year, fishing 125 different days, and averaging 3+ hours fishing each day. To say the least - I learned a lot and became a MUCH better fisherman this year. I have smallmouth bass and musky dialed in and can easily locate these fish during most of my fishing months (May/June - August/Sept.)

I didn’t break any of my personal bests this year when it came to size - only catching a 20.5 inch smallie and maybe a handful of 40 inch + muskies. I want to catch a 21+ inch smallmouth and a 50+ inch musky. I know it will happen - sometime - and hopefully when it does I will be prepared and in the right position to get out the measuring tape without mangling the fish too bad.

That’s always my concern when measuring a fish - if there is any chance the fish is going to be injured then I will shy away from measuring them and let them go back into the water. Fish surviving is much more important than knowing the length.

But, I am getting offtopic and away from what I set out to do - that is, talk about 2018 fishing.

Simply put - the fishing was great and I enjoyed putting people on their first muskies (and from a kayak) and catching smallies. Guiding people on the water is fun and so rewarding when the species they are looking for happens. My focus is catching smallies and muskies from a kayak or small raft. No motors - no crowded spots - just moving water and the chance at something memorable! If you follow me much at all you know I am all about conservation and sustainability - I am always a steward for these ideals.

I will have much more content coming into the next year - for now though it is going to be under wraps. :)

2019 fishing is coming fast - I have not been out yet - but hope to soon. Only 3/4/5/6 more months until ice is free and we can get back out there.

Goals in 2019 - catch fish non-stop. Guide. Live life to the fullest. Be the best father I can. 2019 isn’t just about fishing and guiding, but bringing my daughter into the world. All good things.

As always.

Catch.

Release.

Wander.

C'est la vie.

Pura vida.

Carpe diem.
