It seems that the more I guide in the summer, the more I have to find success in fishing in the non-prime times of the year. Spring and fall have become my only times to be on the water and while I usually would have turned up my nose to high water and cold sometimes snowy conditions, I have embraced them to find a moment to fish.
This enjoyment of fishing during the non-summer months has brought my an appreciation for spring as I never before held. I am finding that spring fishing can be as fun as fishing during the summer and while the style of fishing is truly different, it is absolutely enjoyable.
Recently, yesterday that is, I got out and smacked 42 fish with a whopping 6 different species in a single raft float on the water. Legendary when you know that just 14 days ago we had 52 inches of snow fall in parts of the Upper Peninsula. Yes, 52 inches, that’s over 4 feet of snow that fell.
The rivers have been high, cold, and dirty but the fish can still be found.
The summer months are nearly here - guiding will be a blast. Please reach out if you are looking for any last minute trips as I might have a few openings to fill.
As always.
Catch.
Release.
Wander.
C'est la vie.
Pura vida.
Carpe diem.
