Why I started this website and my YouTube channel.

For my first blog post I've decided upon the topic of explaining why I am even doing this: why am I creating a blog, a website, and a YouTube channel.

                                                        Largemouth from the kayak.

I've always been interested in videography, photography, and editing.  My wife Melanie is a professional photographer and I've seen her turn rather uneventful days into beautiful photos.  This ability to capture a moment is one reason I've taken up creating videos for my YouTube account.  Instead of a single moment, I like to show the entire event, but the same skills that are needed to take a photo come in handy when taking video footage.  I've worked with her as a second shooter at quite a few weddings and I finally took the leap this last year and started doing my own work; creating videos of fishing and what I love to do.

My YouTube channel is quite small, yet that is okay.  Even if I am just making content for friends, family, and a few subscribers  I enjoy the act of creating.  I have to plan it out, actually fish and get the footage, and cull through the content, all before I even think about the uploading process to YouTube.  It takes a lot of time, but it is a creative outlet that I find very rewarding and fulfilling.  My grandfather, my mother, my uncle, my cousin, and my wife  are all very creative individuals.  They make jewelry, pottery, skin care products, fused glass, paintings, metal tools and an assortment of other items.

Apart from whittling on sticks, drawing, and painting as a kid I was never super creative.  Creating videos is my creative niche in my family and I thoroughly enjoy it.  I am learning and still have far to go before I consider myself proficient.  The more videos I create, the better they get.  I look back at videos I put up even a few months ago and realize what I could and should have done differently.

This website, blog, and gallery are here to keep me focused.  Focused on creating cool and engaging content that will entertain friends and family for years to come.  As long as Melanie and I get enjoyment out of watching the videos and reading the blogs then it will have been worth it.

In a sense this website is a bit of an escape from the real world and all the problems we face daily.  Here my only concern will be creating something out of nothing.  Wandering and getting lost in nature and trying to convey that through a video format.  Forget about the politics and the nastiness that we too often see in our world.  Taking 10 minutes from your day and coming on a journey on the river or lake might help you regain prospective of what really matters in our precious world.

I guess in a odd way I don't need to justify this blog, website, or YouTube channel to anyone.  If I find the time I put into it to be a good use of time and a reward then that is a worthy justification in and of itself.  This channel brings me happiness.  And as long as it continues to do so I will continue to upload videos and return here to blog.

I have enough stress in my real life.  This blog and channel will bring me sanity in the stressful times of the year.

That's all for now.  I will be updating this blog weekly (hopefully) with new posts about this and that.  Mostly everything will somehow tie into fishing, exploring, traveling, and living life to the fullest.

Catch. Release. Wander.   C'est la vie.  Pura vida.  Carpe Diem.  Two months until trout opener and more videos start rolling.
